How The Lake Sunapee Snowmobile Club Got Started Realizing there was a need for trails in the area, the Lake Sunapee Snowmobile Club was formed by a group of local snowmobile enthusiasts organized by Russ Berry and chartered 3/14/88. The club now has over 300 family and business memberships. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00PM at the Newbury Fire Station. Club-owned grooming machines maintain Eighty-five miles of trails in the Bradford, Newbury and Sunapee area. The club also has a rescue sled that is ready for any emergency. It is stored at the Sunapee Fire Station. Several business establishments located on or near the trail system are also club members and offer lodging, food, gasoline or other services to snowmobilers. Trail maps are posted at these places for distribution. The Sunapee Club is a member of the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association and the Merrimack and Sullivan County Snowmobile Clubs. As members of the NHSA the club participates in the annual Easter Seal Ride-In held every February. The Sunapee Club also sponsors, annually, off highway recreational vehicle safety educational programs for 12 through 16 year olds. The club has many fundraising activities, but the one the club is the most proud of is giving snowmobile rides once a year to the handicapped people in partnership with the New England Handicapped Sports Association.
