LAKE SUNAPEE SNOWMOBILE CLUB LAKE SUNAPEE SNOWMOBILE CLUB JANUARY/FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER Greetings One and All, The season is upon us and we’ve all been very busy. I managed to get out for my first ride of the year last Sunday. The trails were great in some places, but other spots were very bumpy and muddy. There’s a lot of logging going on, so be careful when going through those sections as they can be very messy. I’m sure we’ll get more snow soon. Congratulations go out to our president, Matt Labelle, who married his sweetheart, Deb Messer, our treasurer, on January 10th in a private ceremony attended by family. Best wishes to Matt and Deb and their family. Once again, the New England Handicapped Sports Association (NEHSA), asked the LSSC to provide rides for interested veterans and on January 11th, Rob Greene, James Gove, Richard Osborne, Tom Denney and Charlene’s father brought their snowmobiles to the Best Western and gave rides between Sunapee and Mountain View. This is always a huge success when there’s enough snow cover and the veterans really appreciate getting out to enjoy the winter season. _____________________________________________________ Message from the President Last week’s rain wiped us out. There was a pretty good base but now the trails are iced over and there are many bare spots. We are all hoping for more snow. We have a major fund raising coming up. The Annual Ride In and Radar Run is scheduled for Saturday, February 13th at the Sunapee State Beach. Prices will be the same as last year as will the trophy categories. Last year’s top speed was 131 mph. Great food will be served from our cook shack and we hope to have a couple of vendors displaying their wares. Later there will be a bonfire, torchlight parade and fireworks. We are hoping for a good turnout and are always looking for volunteers to help out. We’d like to remind people again to be respectful while out on the trails and when out riding and you see people working on the trails, give them a thumbs up. Please call Matt Labelle, 763-7336, if you would like to volunteer for any committee or become an officer or board member.
Trail Condition Report Trail Master, Tim Gove, reports that trails are still open but it’s icy and there are many bare spots. Grooming has been suspended. He suggests to not only check the club’s website for conditions but to also check the NH Bureau of Trails for statewide conditions as many parks are closed until we get more snow. He would like to remind people of Rider Responsibility. When riders leave the trails it shows landowners that snowmobilers are irresponsible. It only takes one person’s thoughtlessness to cause the closing of a trail. It is everyone’s responsibility to be courteous and respectful of property and others using the trails. ________________________________________________________ February is a very busy month. Nomination for officers and open board members will be held at the General Meeting Wednesday February 3rd and also at that meeting will be the drawing for the stay at the Lopstick Cabins in Pittsburgh. We’ll have two guest speakers from the state ready to answer questions about NH snowmobiling and the trails systems. This club operates on a volunteer basis. We are very proud of our club and your membership is greatly appreciated. We are thankful for the landowners who graciously allow access through their properties so that there is an awesome network of trails. The Officers and Board of Directors would love to see more of you get involved with club activities. New input is always appreciated. Some people only lend a hand here and there, or help out on a particular job, or donate equipment time for a project. Attend a monthly meeting, offer your expertise on a committee or spend an hour or so helping out on the trails. Hope to see you at the meeting on the 3rd and the Radar Run on the 13th. Don’t forget to call Matt if you can help out at this or any event or if you have information for upcoming newsletters. Also, keep checking the website www.lakesunapeesnowmobileclub.com for updates. Don’t worry, we’ll get more snow (we’d better, I finally got my machine registered, ha ha.) Respectfully submitted, Sasha Wolfe, LSSC sec’y |
